I got in the water just last week searching for them and found that they were scarce on the near shore wrecks. Gave the roe to a kind couple in a johnboat bream fishing.  Used the shad to catch two nice 20lb flathead catfish. We pushed out to about 32 miles after making bait inshore. Various bottom feeders ate anything from live bait to cut to squid and dead sardines.
